From their catalogue each Artist will share favourite tunes (well-known songs) to the evenings repertoire – with a connection to ‘Matariki’, the Maori New Year – a time of reflection, honour, rekindling of lifes’ fire and new beginnings through the acknowledging of our ancestors. There will be a music component of ‘The Tribute’ to honour and mihi the passing of much loved entertainers both locally and internationally.

Matariki in the City is a free event that celebrates the Maaori New Year and its significance to Maaori culture. Matariki in the City is a fun, engaging day suitable for the whole whanau.The day includes cultural performances, opportunity to learn how to make manu aute, listen to traditional stories from renowned storytellers Joe Harawira and Kawe Roes. A presentation from Space Dave about Matariki stars, a graffiti demonstration from Garreth Steiner, kids face painting, and much more.
Come celebrate Matariki with us on Saturday the 1st of July 9.30am to 2pm at the Meteor Theatre. This is a collaborative community event hosted by: Hamilton City Council, Hamilton City Libraries, Waikato Museum, Marei Kura Creations, and Entertainment Suite.

Mataariki Extravaganza 2017 is an exciting fundraising event that will include an amazing 7 course meal highlighting the best of what Aotearoa has to offer, along with Matariki performances including national icons such as Beau Monga and Majic Paora, NRG Rising as well as our very own Nawton Kapa haka group, along with stories of Matariki. Tautoko te haerenga o te kura ki te whakataetae Kapa Haka.
